On March 27, the Fonds de recherche du Québec en Santé (FRQS) and Génome Québec (GQ) launched a province-wide COVID-19 Biobank to facilitate and coordinate the collection of samples and data from COVID patients across Quebec. Dr. Simon Rousseau, a researcher at the Meakins-Christie Laboratories and Montreal Chest Institute (part of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC)), is the co-director of the Biobanque Québécoise de la COVID-19 (BQC19), which includes the medical and scientific expertise from McGill and several other Quebec institutions. Almost six months into the pandemic, there is still little knowledge of the virus’ pathophysiology and therefore research is critical to understand how the virus infects people differently and its transmission within the community.
